Rapp Confirms More Than $355,000 in Fire and Ambulance Grants Enroute to Forest, McKean and Warren Counties
2/1/2013
WARREN — Rep. Kathy Rapp (R-Warren/Forest/McKean) announced today that 35 fire departments and ambulance organizations throughout Forest, McKean and Warren counties have been awarded approximately $355,030 from a grant program administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner.

“I am very pleased to see that hundreds of thousands of dollars will yet again benefit first responders throughout Warren, Forest and McKean counties,” said Rapp. “Many of these companies struggle to pay basic necessities, such as fuel and other operating costs, and have little money left to upgrade their facilities or their equipment. I continue to support this funding because it is specifically designed to help them meet their basic financial needs and operating costs. I applaud all of the men and women of our volunteer companies for applying for this funding, and most importantly, for their service in keeping their communities safe.”

Last fall, Rapp and the Pennsylvania General Assembly voted to both extend and expand this decade-old program for an additional four years and increased the total grant funding from $25 million to $30 million. The new law also provided financial assistance to some paid municipal fire companies.

All funding comes from the proceeds from slot machine gaming, and not general fund tax revenue.
Projects eligible for funding include: construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or reduction of existing debt.
