WARREN — Rep. Kathy L. Rapp (R-Warren/Crawford/Forest), Republican chair of the House Health Committee, issued this statement following the dismissal of lawmakers from Harrisburg without the passing of a state budget:
“One of our most important duties as lawmakers in this Commonwealth is to pass a balanced budget by the start of the new fiscal year. Yet, as time winds down on June 30, members of the General Assembly are leaving the Capitol with no deal in sight.
“We found time to extend an emergency declaration over the collapse of Interstate-95 in Philadelphia. We should have been able to find time to work out a deal on our state budget.”
The General Assembly is obligated to pass a balanced budget by June 30 each year.
