WARREN — The Warren County Development Association (WCDA) was awarded a $500,000 state grant to develop permanent office facilities for the Northern Pennsylvania Regional College in Warren, according to Rep. Kathy Rapp (R-Warren/Crawford/Forest) and Senator Scott Hutchinson (R-21).
WCDA will apply the Redevelopment Capital Assistance Program (RCAP) grant towards the costs to renovate the former PNC Bank Building, a historic five-story structure in the heart of the City of Warren’s business and streetscape improvement area.
The RCAP portion of the Northern Pennsylvania Regional College Administrative Center project will focus on completing infrastructure improvements within the PNC building as well as completing the modernization of elevator control systems within the facility to ensure safe and continuous operation of these systems.
“The Northern Pennsylvania Regional College provides affordable access to higher education for families throughout our area,” said Rapp. “This permanent office will also enhance the economic vibrancy of Warren.”
“As the Northern Pennsylvania Regional College solidifies its presence in Warren, it will expand the quality higher education opportunities for students in what is currently an underserved area in rural, northwestern Pennsylvania,” said Hutchinson.
“As the public two-year college serving Northwestern Pennsylvania, Northern Pennsylvania Regional College is very pleased and excited about the RACP funding coming to Warren,” said Dr. Joseph T. Nairn, college President. “The decision to establish the college center here in Warren was based in part on the centrality of the location, and this investment in Warren enables us to move into facilities that can facilitate our growth.”
